Welcome To Nova Horatia
Salve, and welcome to this site. My real name need not be known, for here I am just Nova Horatia. I am a teenage Latin student who desires to honor the legacy left by the Roman greats.
For those of you who can't read Latin, let me start by providing you a translation and context for my tagline, "Ego Sum Nova Horatia -- Tu Es Flaccus."
This means "I am the new Horatia (well Horatius, aka Horace, except I am a female) -- You are floppy." Let me be clear: I likely know not who you are and am (for once) not attempting mockery.
The poet Horace, whose works have inspired this alias and site, was actually called Quintus Horatius Flaccus.
As any Latin nerd might tell you, ancient Roman men had three names: a praenomen, a nomen, and a cognomen.
I ned not get into the full details (maybe I will in a different article). But a cognomen was essentially a nickname, and the aforementioned Horace's cognomen was Flaccus, and thus I am
giving that nickname to you just as I gave a nickname to myself, especially since I know not your true identity.
Anyways, most of my articles will not be this wordy. Occasionally I might feel the need to share a lesson, and then I will. For the most part, here you will either see my own Horatian satire or I will share some of his own works, or details about him.
Vale (farewell),
Nova Horatia.
